BODY IMAGE

Body image refers to one's perception of his or her own physical body, including any thoughts or feelings that arise as a result of this perception.

Self-perception, self-worth and self-esteem can be influenced by one's body image, which in turn is formed by various factors including peer pressure, cultural and social values or expectations.

In our society where we are often bombarded by messages from people around us and the media that being thin is good, it is not surprising that many end up having a negative body image and struggle with disordered eating habits.

Having a healthy and positive body image plays an important role in recovery from eating disorders, or any form of disordered eating and exercise habits. Through our outreach efforts, we hope to spread the message that everybody is unique and beautiful in his or her own way, and that self-love is the first step to a healthy relationship with one's body, food and with the people around us.
